WE WERE HERE by Daisy Prescott: Book Tour & Review

WWH flat blue

unnamedIn the 90s …

texting involved paper and a pen …

… our selfies were Polaroids …

… our favorite music was on mix tapes.

Sex was dangerous, music was raw, and falling in love felt nostalgic.

We were friends and lovers.

We thought we knew everything.

We knew nothing.

We were here.

Set in the early 1990s, a time before the internet, social media, and smart phones, We Were Here is the prequel to Geoducks Are For Lovers. This book can be read as a standalone.

“This story has it all! Just like a mixed tape; we get a dose of steamy romance, angsty ballads and sweet love songs woven together in a compelling, heartwarming and sometimes heartwrenching journey of self-exploration.” Helena Hunting, New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

MICHELLE’S REVIEW

Ok Daisy Prescott fans. This book is for you. Being someone who has been reading Daisy’s book since she came out with GEODUCKS ARE FOR LOVERS, I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane with the whole gang!

For those of you that have not read GEODUCKS, I think it’s a great intro to this book even though WE WERE HERE is a prequel. It might be interesting though to see what happens when people read WE WERE HERE first.

Each of our main characters gets a section in WE WERE HERE and it follows both some of their personal journey and some of their collective group dynamic. For me- the favorite section belonged to Selah and I am not at all surprised. I loved her book- MISSIONARY POSITION. You can read my review HERE. In fact, I think Selah is the character I would have probably cast as myself!

She’s fun and carefree but in a way that screams that she knows what she wants. I loved seeing her be that way even as a college student.

I think Daisy Prescott did a great job of creating a cast of young adults that were very much in line with the 40-something gang we already knew. Quinn and Selah were fun loving but also kind of the glue. You see why Ben and Jo were so lovely in GEODUCKS and I fell in love with them all over again while watching them navigate through relationships in college. And then of course there is Maggie and Gil. I actually went back and read my GEODUCKS ARE FOR LOVERS review (HERE) and I was laughing at how much I disliked Maggie but loved Gil. And what’s really funny is that I was just as frustrated with Maggie in WE WERE HERE. That girl just can’t stop getting in her own way.

Overall- this book was a fun trip down memory lane. Each chapter title was a musical memory that I loved and each section of the book was a lovely insight into a group of people you ultimately feel like you already know.

Daisy is a go to author for books about adults. No offense but sometimes, a girl really wants to read about someone in their 30s or 40s! But for a change, it was really nice to see some of my favorite 40-somethings back when they were 20-somethings! Thanks for the memories, Daisy!

Food writer Maggie Marrion is just getting back on her feet after a horrible year, or two, or three. With their twentieth reunion approaching, she invites four of her closest friends from college for a weekend at her beach cabin. What she doesn’t expect is her best friends, artist Quinn Dayton and part-time erotica novelist, Selah Elmore, to play matchmaker. The two plot a surprise that will make the weekend, and her life, a lot more interesting.

Gil Morrow, former grunge musician turned history professor, joins them as Selah’s date for the weekend. After coming face to face with the one who got away, he decides he’s waited long enough to get the girl. With the support of old friends, a few wishing rocks, the world’s largest burrowing clam, and a hot lumberjack thrown into the mix, Gil reminds Maggie that forty-something isn’t too old for second chances.

Can we learn to love the life we have and let go of who we expected to be? What happens when the generation from The Breakfast Club and Reality Bites meets The Big Chill? Come spend a weekend with these Generation X-ers as they share laughter, tears, life’s ups and downs, old stories, and new beginnings.

After his favorite neighbor rents out her cabin for the winter, John finds himself playing fireman and tour guide to Diane Watson, a beautiful brunette with her own messy past and recent battle scars.

Will he be ready to fall in love? Or will he fall back into his old, flirty ways?

Hold onto your heart… and get ready to fall with John Day as he tells his story in this contemporary romance/romantic comedy told in male POV.

This is a spin-off from Geoducks Are for Lovers. It is not necessary to read that novel first.

Sex? Absolutely.

Love? Not my thing.

I didn’t do love or butterflies, but I loved him.

I was screwed, and not in a good way.

Selah Elmore is a smart, independent woman who knows exactly who she is and what she wants. She loves her life being a professor and popular pirate erotica author. However, when she leaves the Pacific Northwest to spend six months studying sculpture in West Africa, she learns she doesn’t know a thing about love.

Cocky, suit-wearing Gerhard charms her during a stopover in Amsterdam, but dashing, adventurous Kai sweeps her off her feet in Ghana.

Sparks fly on three continents when perpetually single Selah discovers there’s more to love and life than she ever imagined.

I, Thomas Clifford Donnely, am a manwhore.

I’ve been told I’m irresistible to women. Like catnip for a different type of pussy-cat. I guess you could call me a Tom Cat.

This is the story about how I lost my wingman, broke all my own rules, and found myself falling in love.

Tom Donnelly isn’t the marrying kind, or the dating kind. Even after losing his #1 wingman to love, he doesn’t see the point in relationships. When his sister’s best friend returns to Whidbey Island and propositions Donnelly for a one-night stand, he breaks one of his biggest rules—no fooling around with his sisters’ friends. It’s just sex, nothing more. That’s what Tom does and does well.

What happens when “just sex” isn’t enough?

Hailey King is more than a match for Tom’s flirtations. She’s known him most of her life and has heard the rumors about his “skills” for years. When her perfectly planned future falls apart, will the last man she should ever fall for turn out to be more than a one-night stand?
