MIDNIGHT LILY by Mia Sheridan: Book Release & Joint Review

MidnightLily_v2-2Holden Scott is the prince of professional football. At least he was before he lost it all . . . or more to the point, before he threw it all away. Now he’s out of a job, out of the public’s good graces, and perhaps just a little out of his mind. So when a friend offers up his remote lodge in the wilds of Colorado, giving Holden some time away to get his life back on track, he can hardly say no. The last thing he expects is to see a beautiful girl in the woods—one wearing a white, lace dress who appears in the moonlight, and leaves no footprints behind. Is she a dream? A ghost? A product of his muddled imagination? Or something entirely different?

Midnight Lily is the haunting love story of two lost souls reaching for each other in the dark. A tale of healing, acceptance, and the worlds we create to protect our own hearts. It is a story of being lost, of being found, and of being in the place between.

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY VIRGO. Non-Paranormal, New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

PEPPER & MICHELLE’S JOINT REVIEW

MICHELLE: Wow. Lovers. You know how we feel about Mia Sheridan. Yes, she’s our fav and bestie and we love her. But she’s also an amazing writer. And she has done it again.

PEPPER: So. Much. WOW!!

MICHELLE: She’s tackled all kinds of things in her books from the brokenness of the foster care system, a scary cult upbringing and our favorite mute but loveable hero. But in this book- she tackles something really hard- mental illness. And she does it with the grace and beautiful words we have come to love.

PEPPER: Seriously, I don’t think ANYONE could write about this subject as gracefully as our lover MSher. Mia always writes so beautifully; her words just float along like you are in a cloud of eloquence. She’s pure class. And, this subject, it needs gentle and empathetic hands like Mia’s. So it really is perfection.

MICHELLE: Exactly! So, I don’t know how to talk about the characters without either spoiling things or making the story seem like something it’s not. So here’s what we can say. It’s not a paranormal even though at first I started to think it was.

PEPPER: Yeah, and that kind of mystery in the beginning was something we haven’t seen from Mia before. You know, like thinking it was ghost like at first. I loved seeing this from her!

MICHELLE: I know, I even texted you about it - like are you sure this isn’t paranormal?!?

Well, what you have is a hero that is broken, seemingly beyond repair at times. He has suffered the loss of his best friend and is mourning him by getting lost in drugs but he somehow manages to hate himself for it. He wants to be better but it’s not until he meets his Midnight Lily that he starts to feel like he can be better.

PEPPER: Honestly, I just want someone to believe in me like he believes in Lily. It’s just so romantic that he KNOWS she can help save him from himself.

MICHELLE: Lily is unlike any character I have ever read. She’s strong when she has to be but carries around her own darkness. At first I couldn’t believe this wasn’t a paranormal but again- promise it isn’t. She floats into our hero’s life and ultimately saves him.

PEPPER: I loved Lily. And I love what you said - floats into his life - Mia writes this so well that you feel like Lily is literally floating throughout the whole book. Not necessarily like a ghost, but there is just something so ethereal about her. Goddess like.

I don’t know, she’s definitely a heroine we have NOT come across, pretty much ever.

MICHELLE: And - just when you think you know what’s happening- MSher basically pulls the rug from under you and turns the entire story upside down on it’s head. From there, things just get intense. I seriously was texting Pepper and was like- OMG THE TWIST. THE TWIST.

PEPPER: I KNOW!! And there was no build up. It was like oh - BAM - “Hi, I’m the twist. Welcome to refiguring your entire life out again”.

MICHELLE: Lol! Totally, however, the twist comes so early on, I was scared about what was to come. At around 50% is where it becomes clear that this book intends to really tackle the hard reality of loving someone who suffers from a mental illness.

PEPPER: I know, and then for the rest of the book you just do this:

MICHELLE: Right?!? So, I feel like this is all we can say without spoiling this! This is a beautiful story of loving someone just as they are. It’s heartbreaking but ends with a note of love and hope and the happiest ending for these two lovers.

PEPPER: I know. You just have to read. Spend the time in another amazing love story that Mia Sheridan has spun. It’s new and different and you will root for these two lost souls so hard that the ending will be pure bliss.
