MICHELLE’S REVIEW

So, I’m going to be really honest with you for a second. I am not a huge fan of male authors.

Hear me out. I love me some Sylvain Reynard (I’m not even 100% what gender he identifies as) but overall- I have been disappointed by male authors. For one thing- I often find the way females fawn after them on social media to be deplorable. But even when I overlook that and read, I often find that I just don’t connect with the writing. It’s personal for me- I totally understand that other people feel differently.

9 LETTERS- while not a perfect read- was an interesting one for me. What really caught my attention about the writing style was I felt like the author was writing like a DUDE. Not a guy writing what he thought women would like but really and truly- I was thinking “a man totally wrote this.”

It was especially prevalent in the sex scenes. However, in general, I felt the way the characters thought and acted were the way guys felt and perceived women to feel. That writing style alone kept me intrigued.

The story itself I though was an interesting concept and one that was equal parts sweet and heart-wrenching. And there was a dog involved so you know that’s always a few bonus points.

This wasn’t a five star read for me but I did enjoy it. It took me out of normal comfort zone of what styles I like to read but I found myself wanting to find out what happened. I didn’t necessarily have a huge investment in the characters but I was interested in seeing what happened in the end.

I think if you are a fan of male authors that write like men- this is a great book. And I actually think if you have a husband or significant other that might be interested in reading a romance novel that reads like a men’s romance novel- he might really appreciate this one!
