MICHELLE’S REVIEW
So here are things I know to be true.
1) Aleatha Romig is a great writer.
2) Aleatha Romig is a total sweetheart in real life.
3) Aleatha Romig knows how to write some pure mind fuckery.

I will say that compared to some of her other books- BETRAYAL was the least insane based on how much alcohol I had to drink to survive. But don’t worry- there’s still plenty of insanity to go around.
This is an interesting book because for me, in the end it read more like a set up for the series than it’s own story.
You meet Alex who is doing her damn best to cut the ties from her insane family who is trying to control every move she makes. I KNOW there is more story there and I am really interested in learning more because right now I just hate her mother for being a weak cow and her step father can just burn for all I care.

The story is told in alternating past and present views as Alex reminisces on the week she spent in Del Mar being someone else. Well not someone else entirely- just being a free version of herself and going by Charli. Charli- unlike Alex- lets loose just a little more but I think once she lets Charli loose- the Alex she knew starts to change.
While in Del Mar, Charli/Alex meets mysterious Nox and they proceed to have an amazing week together. I personally was on Nox’s end of sexual frustration with this week but once they got down to doing the deed it was well worth it.

Despite a number of obstacles aimed at keeping Alex tied to her family- she finds the strength to break away and makes it to New York where she meets up with her cousin Patrick and his lover Cy. As she unravels the true nature of how they met- Alex is introduced to the world of Infidelity- and it is nothing like you could have imagined.
The first half of this book for me was a lot of introduction but when Alex got to New York, the rest of the story comes at you lightening fast and before you know it, it’s over and you are waiting for more!
There is a preview of book two- CUNNING- that will leave you begging for more. The entire series will follow these two unconventional lovers and it is going to be quite a story. Can’t wait for more!

EXCERPT
I motioned around the patio. “Is this what you do? You save women from the resort leaches and lure them to your lair?”
“My lair? Am I Batman?”
“Are you? I don’t know.”
He smirked. “If only I could make a living at doing just that, but alas, no. You’re my first rescue.”
I stopped my reach for a piece of cheese and looked back up at him. “You’re first?”
“My first rescue,” he clarified. “Hardly my first.”
“Why?”
He lifted his glass toward me in a toast. After I lifted mine, he said, “To you, Charli with an I, and to learning more about you.”
After our glasses clinked and we both took a sip, I asked the question that I’d been dying to know ever since our morning encounter. “You seem to have a clear advantage. You know my name, but I’ve yet to learn yours.”
“Do I?”
“Do you what?”
“Do I have an advantage?” He leaned closer. “Do I know your name? You see, I had the resort’s reservations scoured. I wanted to send a gift to your room and confirm our dinner, yet Charli was nowhere to be found.”
I took a deep breath. “Well, I’m here with my sister. I guess my name isn’t on the reservation.”
“You’re sister?”
“Yes, and you—if I were to have the reservations scoured?”
The sun had now fully set, falling below the water and the darkening sky was beginning to fill with stars, especially over the water.
“Would you believe, Batman?” When I didn’t respond, he said, “Bruce Wayne?”
Though I pursed my lips, I felt the twinkle in my eyes.
