Tessa Bailey! Why are you so talented??? I love it when you find an author that you think -”whatever this person writes, I’m going to read it cause I know it’s going be great!” This has been Tessa for me for a while.
RISKING IT ALL is the first book in the spinoff series- CROSSING THE LINE. You’ll see some of your favorite characters from the LINE OF DUTY series- Ruby and Troy to be specific.
But this story is about Seraphina (Sera for short) and Ruby’s best friend and half brother Bowen. There is so much to like about this book that I don’t know where to even start.
Sera is a straight laced Catholic girl. But despite her virginal status- she’s not totally naïve. Despite being protected by the men in her family- she chooses to join the police force and put herself in the line of danger to avenge her brother’s death by a major gang leader. And I’m basically like:
Bowen has only even known a life of crime. His dad is useless and his mother- who he shares with Ruby- was absent their whole lives. Bowen is now running his gang due to his dad’s incarceration but it’s not what he wants. He does it because it’s all he knows.
When Bowen gets a chance to essentially get a pardon from the police chief in return for keeping Sera safe- he takes it. Not for the redemption but because Sera’s picture alone calls out to him. And when he meets her- say hello to the fireworks. Basically it was like:
So I have summarized enough. The story itself is interesting and kept me invested from start to finish. Bowen is not a bad guy and it’s so clear in how he treats Sera. And Sera is SUCH a strong female lead that you will have no choice but to fall in love with her! The sex is off the charts because TBailes is amazing at writing hot sex scenes.
And the real bad guy in all of this?? Never saw it coming and I LOVED that twist.
While I loved seeing Ruby and Trey, my focus was all on Bowen and Sera. They were the perfect couple showing that sometimes- opposites really do attract. I loved how sweet he was with her instantly and how they brought out the best in each other. Perfection!
The ending was so great and I cannot wait to see what happens in the rest of this series.
