FISHER’S LIGHT by Tara Sivec: Book Release & Review

Fisher,
I guess this is it, huh? After fourteen years together, starting a life of our own on this island, five deployments and countless letters I’ve written you through it all, I finally go out to the mailbox and see something I’ve always dreamed of: an envelope with your handwriting on it. For one moment, I actually thought you’d changed your mind, that all the awful things you said to me were just your way of coping after everything you’d been through. I was still here, Fisher. I was still here, holding my breath, waiting for you to come back even though you told me you never would. You always said you’d find your way back to me. Out of all the lies you’ve told me, this one hurts the most.

Enclosed you will find the signed divorce papers, as requested.
I hope you find what you’re looking for. I’m sorry it wasn’t me.
Lucy

To get the ending they want, Lucy and Fisher will have to go back to the beginning. Through the good and the bad, they’ll be reminded of why they always made their way back to each other, and why this time, one way or another, it will be the last time.

MICHELLE’S REVIEW

I beta read. A lot. So I see a lot of works in progress.

When Tara asked me to read this one- first I peed myself from the excitement and then I got to work. I kept thinking- shit- I’m useless- I have nothing to add cause this is perfect!!

This book, in it’s earliest stages, was near perfection. With the minor tweaks from betas and editors- Fisher’s Light landed firmly in a top read of 2015.

Now for those of you familiar with Tara’s work, this is not going to be your slapstick comedy read, or your military suspense novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat. No- this follows the path of Watch Over Me, where Tara makes you cry.

Yup- this book is an emotional one. And it’s no wonder. It deals with some really tough issues that people deal with every day. Fisher is dealing with PTSD in a very real way. I have no one close to me in the military so I don’t know much about it. But I have volunteered with Veterans before and I know that PTSD is a very real and very heartbreaking thing. But the way that Tara writes about Fisher’s experience takes heartbreak and puts it on steroids.
The story is told through a mix of present day, past and Fisher’s journals. It’s Fisher’s journals that do the majority of the heartbreak so you can at least prep for that when you hit an entry.
And then there is Lucy. Now, you know how I feel about strong heroines. Well Lucy is strength defined. It takes a lot to pick yourself up after life beats you upside the head. And then I can’t even fathom what she felt like when the past smacked her across the face. But every step of the way- she handles it the best way she can. And she is strong. So damn strong.

I cannot stress to you enough how much you should read this. We all know and love funny Tara but I implore you to meet this Tara. The one who is tapping into all of your feels.

This is a beautiful story of loss and of a love that never dies. Love might suffer some bumps and bruises but it survives in the worst circumstances.

Lucy will break your heart. Fisher will obliterate your heart. But its such a beautiful story. It’s raw and painful and gorgeous. A second chance romance at it’s finest. Do not miss out on reading this one.
