SACKED was going to be a hard book to follow up but I think Jen Frederick did an amazing job with JOCKBLOCKED. Matt and Lucy were the kind of couple you rooted for from the start. Both characters are likeable and people you can imagine liking in real life which is not always something that comes across well in fiction.

Lucy was my girl. Lucy might have been me. I just knew I was going to be lawyer in high school in college and even did mock trial and Model UN! I also slept with a football player…or two…or…well I didn’t get one like Matty so maybe this is where our similarities end. Anyways-Lucy- you are my girl!

And Matt- we knew in SACKED but this is his chance to shine in more ways than one. He’s challenged with the task of taking on the team captain position but in order to do it, he has to face some pretty tough challenges that could tear the team apart. To add some fuel to the fire- those decisions include Ace who happens to be Lucy’s best friend.

We really see Jen’s skill in creating characters you feel like you know personally manifest itself in how Ace plays a role in this story. He ends up being a character that surprises you at every turn. No spoilers but some of his decisions were so unexpected that I found myself hurt by them on Lucy’s behalf!

Overall this is great book. Sexy, sweet and fun. Jen also really knows football so as someone who loves the game- this is book where all sports references really make sense and aren’t there just because the character plays a sport.

There isn’t insta love in this book. Yes- Lucy and Matty have instant attraction but their relationship builds. And they walk into their relationship with total honesty about who they are in and out of relationships. I often thing that in fiction- there is sometimes too much drama added in. I don’t know about you- but my life is dramatic enough on it’s own without having to throw in a whole bunch of extra!

This is about two young adults who find themselves drawn to one another and choose to listen to what they individually want rather than what people around them want or expect. In fact- they spend a lot of time fighting against people who think that their relationship shouldn’t happen. Throw in their individual challenges and you’ve got plenty of drama to keep this interesting without being over the top.

If you liked SACKED, you will enjoy this and if you are new to Jen- this is a great place to start. It’s simply a good book that is well written and fun to read from start to finish. And as for who’s next? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, I will be waiting…impatiently!
