HIM by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy: Book Release & Review

Profile portrait of businessman working on laptop in black suit at studio

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend…and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

MICHELLE’S REVIEW

Ok. I’m just gonna say it. Gay sex is hot. I don’t know if lesbian sex does it for me in the same way but two men???? Holy. Hot.

So HIM is the love child of two amazing authors- Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy- and on that alone, you should read it. Because they are both fantastic writers.

This is the story of Jamie and Wesley (Ryan Wesley) who grew up as best friends after years of summer camp together. But one night- Wesley pushed Jamie too far. You see- he is gay and at the time, he was just starting to realize it. And he realized that he was in love with Jamie.

So I have to admit, I had to put aside my reality meter for a little bit. So for one thing- Jamie was a little too cool with what had happened and at first almost too cool about his feelings.

But it all ended up coming around for me as Jamie started to really process what he was feeling about Wesley.

They spend a summer together rekindling a friendship but more importantly finding out who they really are.

And this involves a lot of incredibly hot sex. I mean. I was reading at work and I almost had to have a little me time in the middle of the day. It was that hot. I was like:

But it was also really sweet. I mean really sweet. I loved seeing their relationship evolve from something fun and exploratory to something solid and real.

I hope we see more from these two authors. Doesn’t matter to me if it’s about two men, two women or any combination. I want to read it. Ok - maybe not Dino porn. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

If you’re afraid of a little gay sex- try this. Just try it. You might find that at the end of the day love is love and hot sex is hot sex.
