Sometimes searching for true love can be a little…Outlandish.
I met Jamie Fraser when I was nineteen years old. He was tall, red-headed, and at our first meeting at least, a virgin. I fell in love hard, fast and completely. He knew how to ride a horse, wield a sword and stitch a wound. He was, in fact, the perfect man.
That he was fictional hardly entered into it.
At 29, Emma Sheridan’s life is a disaster and she’s tired of waiting for the perfect boyfriend to step from the pages of her favorite book. There’s only one place to look, and it means selling everything and leaving her world behind. With an unexpected collection of allies along the way, can Emma face down a naked fishmonger, a randy gnome, a perfidious thief, and even her own abdominal muscles on the journey to find her Fraser?

PEPPER’S REVIEW
So, I was really pumped to read this book as I am an OUTLANDER fan and have a major lady boner over Jamie Fraser (and Claire TBH). And although I liked the story of FINDING FRASER as a whole, there were a few things that fell flat for me. This is definitely a fun fan-fiction story if you’re an OUTLANDER junkie so I’ll give you the good and the meh parts and let you decide.
What was good:
The writing: KC Dyer is a kick ass writer. This book had such a great flow and kept me wanting to read more. I loved that a lot of this was written as a blog post. It had a new and fun approach to telling a story and just made the inner dialogue that much more quirky.
The storyline: I absolutely loved all the mishaps that Emma goes through. The different people she meets and supporting characters were hilarious most of the time. I found myself doing this ALOT whilst reading this:
I am a huge fan of coming of age, or finding yourself stories and this had some remnants of EAT PRAY LOVE and WILD. I would love to just say - “you know what I need to figure some shit out. Peace out bitches I’m going to DisneyWorld to find myself” (don’t judge, it’s a lifelong dream)…
The feeling I was in Scotland again: I loved all the description about Scotland and the Highlands - totally brought me back to my OUTLANDER days.
Sophia: She is Emma’s younger sister, however actually had some sense in her head AND also told Emma what a colossal idiot she was being.
And with that said, we will move into what I could not get into.
What was not so good:
Essentially the only thing I didn’t like about this book was Emma. And given that she is a huge part of the book, I was pretty disappointed. I just could not get behind her. For one thing, she was supposed to be 29 and she was acting like an 18 year old kid that was just leaving on a high school graduation trip.
Another thing was her obsession with finding her Fraser that LOOKED exactly like Jamie, but not necessarily was Jamie to the core. And let’s be honest, this is why as OUTLANDER fans, we all LOVED Jamie Fraser. Because he was literally the best hugging man on earth. And he loved Claire so much that it actually hurt you to read about it (or watch it if you are a lucky bastard and can watch the series).

Emma was so obsessed with finding a guy that resembled Jamie in looks only and it just showed immaturity and shallowness. Not to mention she had her hugging Fraser right in front of her almost the whole book and never saw it.
So, honestly, if you are a huge fan of OUTLANDER, this is a great fan-fiction story that takes you back to the Highlands. If you haven’t read or seen OUTLANDER, then this is a super fun and different spin on going after your dreams - even if they are as insane as finding some character in a book (or spending your eat, pray, love journey in DisneyWorld). All in all it’s great writing and a fun story. Just be warned that you may not find Emma very appealing.
