MICHELLE’S REVIEW
Ok. Here are a few things you need to know.
1- I love JL Berg.
2- I love it when bad boys get brought down to their knees by kick ass women.
3- Roman Cavenaugh is one sexy bad boy.
4- Cara Hamilton is about to turn Roman’s world upside down.
5- I still love JL Berg.
So seriously. This book. JL Berg has made a guy you never thought you would even like, the guy you want to marry and love forever. I am on team Roman officially!! Roman is the brother of Jude who we met in WITHIN THESE WALLS and BEYOND THESE WALLS. We first started to get an idea of that REAL Roman in how Lailah and Roman forged a friendship. His pure adoration of her made him human.
But right from the very start of BEHIND CLOSED DOORS- when you think you know Roman- you get slapped in the face with the reality of what this man has been carrying with him. And it broke my heart a bit.
Tough on the outside- Roman is truly a good person. But it takes the love of the right woman to bring that out. Enter Cara. Totally off limits in a number of ways- Cara is everything to Roman. She gets under his skin in the best way possible.
There are some pieces of the story - especially around Cara and how she dealt with certain things- that annoyed me but in the end it was all for the good of the overall story and it worked.
Overall what you get in this book is a fantastic romance. Two people who need to find their way to one another. Neither is overly-flawed but neither is perfect. Roman and Cara both make some poor choices at times but Roman’s bad decisions and his need to win and succeed may cost him everything. And yet- even at what he feels is his most evil- I kept falling more and more in love with him.
JL throws in a few twists and turns and some steamy scenes and it all comes together to make a really wonderful book.
I think the power of a good story is to make you rethink how you see characters and that is exactly what Jennifer has done here. While you don’t have to read the other books in the Walls series- I suggest you do because to truly love Roman, you have to dislike him first.
If you have not read JL Berg, I implore you to. She is one of the best authors out there and is a true talent.
