JUST FRIENDS by Monica Murphy: Book Tour & Review

It’s the end of summer. Just before I start senior year with my two best friends in the whole world. Dustin and Emily are everything to me. We’ve been inseparable since middle school, and when we’re together, nothing can go wrong.

But things aren’t always what they seem. Em’s turned into a drunken mess who parties too much. Dustin and I have hooked up a few times―and now he’s ready to take our relationship to the next level. Yet I’m not sure I want things to change. I’m scared if I take it any further with Dustin, our friendship will be ruined forever. Then there’s Ryan. The new guy. He’s hot. He flirts way too much. And Em has totally set her sights on him.

So when my best friend betrays me in the worst possible way, guess who’s there to help me pick up the pieces of my broken heart? Ryan. But he’s so confusing. Annoying. Sweet. Sexy. I want to trust him, yet he makes it so hard. What I really want is for everything to go back to the way it was before.

Before I found out that best friends make the worst kind of enemies.

PEPPER’S REVIEW

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

Dawson’s Creek has returned in book form. I am DYING! (warning, an influx of Dawson’s Creek gifs to ensue!)

1st of all, most of the characters in this book are totally unlikeable. However, let’s be honest, most teenagers are unlikeable when dealing with their emotions:

So for that I give Monica Murphy 6 billion stars. For making me want to throttle almost every character in this book and at the same time making me NOT want to put this book down.

We have our heroine, Livvy, who has two besties Dustin and Em. This 3-some gets blown apart by teenagers being teenagers. Livvy starts hooking up with hot football star Ryan and meets a new friend Amanda - who also has a love interest. All of this is intertwined with drama, angst, emotions, betrayal - and it’s:

Here is why I loved this book so much:

Exhibit A: You all know how I love my cliffhangers, and this one is delicious. This was like the last episode of a season and you have to wait all effing summer for the next season to start. I love this feeling so much!

Exhibit B: Monica Murphy is a master story teller. I tell you I could not put this book down. All the drama, all the angst, all the back and forth (do I pick him or him? Kind of like do I pick Dawson or Pacey - for SIX seasons).

Exhibit C: Amanda. Livvy’s new best friend. And we will get more of her in the next book. She’s that one teenager within all the other teenagers that is actually cool and you know they are the real heroine of the story.

If you like/love YA - you need this book in your life. If you are a fan of Monica Murphy - you need this book in your life. If you have always wanted to read Monica Murphy but have been living under a rock - you need this book in your life. It will take you back to the WB days or the CW days or whatever that network is now called days. You need this book in your life!!
