There are some authors- at least for me- that could seriously rewrite the phone book and I would probably think it’s the best thing ever. Samantha Young is one of those authors for me. I literally cannot think of a single thing she has written that I don’t love. Down London Road was, and still remains one of my top 5 books of all time and Braden remains my #2 book boyfriend of all time. So considering all of that, I knew that I would not be disappointed by Before Jamaica Lane.
And I wasn’t. At all.
Let’s start with the sex. It will seriously melt your panties right off of your body. I mean the whole premise of this book is that Olivia, who is super shy and unaware of her own hotness, enlists her bestie Nate to help her discover her sexuality so she can do after the guy she’s lusting over.
They both promise this won’t ruin their friendship and that they can handle this.
Of course we all know how well that plan is going to go…
But even though you’re just waiting for the train wreck that is going to eventually happen, you can’t help but enjoy the ride. Literally. Seriously- the sex in this book was just so damn…just go ahead and get your vibrator out now, ok? I was pretty much like this:

the entire time.
Now for the characters. We get to see all of our favorites so that is awesome (Joss/Braden, Jo/Cam, Ellie/Adam) but we also get to know Cole and Hannah a little more which was awesome. (As a side note- these books can be read as stand alone books but I would not advise it-mostly because these are the best books ever.)
Also for fans of Joss and Braden- if you have not read the novella- Castle Hill- I definitely would. There is some overlap in timeline and I know that I personally felt better knowing what was happening.
Sorry- I got distracted by my book husband again. Anyways- Olivia and Nate. So for the first time ever, I was really conflicted about a female character in a SYoung book. I definitely sympathized with her in the beginning. I got her insecurities and thought she was just so sweet and deserved her happiness. But as she and Nate got deeper into their twisted relationship, I started to get really nervous about how this was going to all play out. And when shit did hit the fan I thought at first she handled it well. I was so mad at Nate and totally Team Liv. But then something in me started to change until it got to the point where I wanted to be like:
BUT even then. I got it. Olivia had to have her walls up, had to guard her heart. So I understood. It just drove me nuts.
And then you have Nate. Sweet Lord. The mouth on that man. I’d like to have that man’s mouth on my…well you know.
Nate was sweet and sexy and so damn hot…until he wasn’t. And then I was all like:
BUT this book does have an HEA and while you will rip your hair out trying to get to it- you will love every second of it.
There is a lot of emotion in here. I laughed, I cried, I rubbed one out. It’s definitely one of those books that has a little bit of everything but everything is done well.
Samantha Young is a genius. I trust her to always write a story that will be worth every penny and she managed to deliver, yet again.
If you have not read the other books in this series, I highly suggest you do.
