Blog Tour: Review & GIVEAWAY - PLAYING WITH HER HEART by Lauren Blakely

When you’re acting the role of a lifetime, how can you know if love is real—or all just a part of the show?Twenty-three year old rising theatre star Jill McCormick has built a life out of pretending. Pretending she’s happy, pretending her long-distance crushes add up to something real, pretending she’s not haunted by the dark secret that shattered her world six years ago. Cast in her first Broadway show, she desperately needs to keep her façade intact, but that’s before she comes face to face with her devastating new boss…

Hot-shot director Davis Milo knows the first rule of directing: never fall for your leading lady. Captivated by Jill’s raw talent, he fights his feelings, but watching Jill on-stage with another man is more than his jealous streak can take. Keeping things professional isn’t an option. He wants all of her.

Soon the ingénue and her director are staying late in the empty theatre, their private rehearsals spiraling into new, forbidden territory. Caught up between fiction and reality, Jill struggles to find the truth in all their staged kisses. But how can she be sure that what she feels is real, and not a part of the play? And when two people spend their lives pretending, what happens after the final curtain falls?

MICHELLE’S REVIEW

OMG! This book.
I have read Caught Up in Us and Pretending He’s Mine. And I enjoyed both but in both of those books, I felt like the ending was a little rushed. And I loved the characters but I didn’t feel a huge connection to them.
But this book. I have nothing bad to say about Playing with Her Heart.
I am IN LOVE with Jill and Davis. I seriously need to get my lady parts under control right now so that I can write this review…
There are so many reasons I love this book. For one, I loved the story line. As a musical theatre lover and a singer, I loved all of the references to some of my personal favorite shows. I loved the world that these two characters lived in because it is one that I personally have fantasized about being a part of my whole life.
And the chemistry. Sweet Jesus.
First of all- the sex was just omg so good. I was like:
Every. Damn. Time.
And it was so public sometimes which makes it even hotter. God- the bathroom at the benefit. The dressing room. I just can’t.
And Davis was all about Jill. Her pleasure was always first. I just fell in love with him. I want one just like him. It was like:
And like any good romance novel, there was angst. But the angst was largely internal (mostly Jill’s issues) and I liked that a lot. I am all for drama but sometimes it is nice to just see a couple deal with their own issues. We all have them- so seeing two people deal with them keeps it real. Davis had hang ups of his own but he dealt with them quickly and moved on. He knew what he wanted and I loved how he went after it. There could have been a lot of drama with ex lovers or crushes and future threats but the author kept all of that away and really allowed us to just focus on the main characters.
We got to see some of our favorite characters from the other books in the series which was nice but it never dwelled on them. I thought it was a perfect balance. However, if you haven’t read the other books, you would still be ok reading this one. But after you read this you will probably end up going back and reading the other stories!
Like I said- nothing bad to say. This book was awesome. Lauren, you killed it.
People- go. Now. Get this book. Get out your vibe just in case. And enjoy.
