MOTHER BEFORE WIFEby Melissa BrownRelease Date: February 4, 2016
Secrets.
So many secrets. Nothing but secrets.I started another life with a new husband, thirteen new sister wives and a new
place to call home.
But the secrets weigh on me, on all of us.
And every secret leads back to the Prophet the, self-proclaimed, mouthpiece of
God. The man I’ve worshiped since childhood, the man we obey without question.
And he’s the man who will destroy us all.
I must reveal his secrets.
Prove his betrayal, his lies and his deceit.
I will not be silenced, no matter how hard he tries.
And I will never give up. Ever.
MICHELLE’S REVIEW
I am going to be thinking about this book for a long time. Maybe until the next book comes out. Maybe forever. I have no idea but what I do know is this book rocked me to my core.
Lovers- I am a bit- let’s say obsessed with communities that live in a polygamist society. Melissa Brown has one husband but if I didn’t know better- I would think she’s living as a sister wife because she captures what that life seems to be like in such a real way.
If you have not read WIFE NUMBER SEVEN, I think you might want to start there. It gives a bit of background on Aspen- our main character in MOTHER BEFORE WIFE.
Due to events from WIFE NUMBER SEVEN, Aspen has been granted a new husband. Paul is the bother of the Prophet and we find out that he has a real hard on for Aspen. Like he has been lusting after her for a while and wanted her to be his wife a long time ago.

When Aspen arrives to her new family, she’s initially excited. But slowly, she finds their lack of discipline for the children to be hard to accept and more importantly- her husbands needs to please her are uncomfortable. Aspen was raised to believe sex was not an enjoyable act but one that was only intended for procreation. Paul’s infatuation with her makes him want to please her but it goes against what she is comfortable with. Eventually- his level of attraction to her becomes a problem for everyone.

As the years pass, Paul and Aspen have a fairly rocky marriage. In the midst of everything- Aspen seems to have caught the Prophet doing something illegal. By the end of the book- we think we know but even still- the details aren’t all figured out. The Prophet- knowing Aspen knows more than she should- starts to threaten her children. As a result- Aspen finds herself venturing out into the “outside” world to go to the police. It is there she befriends an officer- Jonathan- who is not only willing to help but seems to be genuinely concerned for her.

The end of the book is incomplete. The Prophet is exerting his power now that he knows Aspen has learned more details of the truth. Paul has completely abandoned being a support to Aspen and her best friend in all of this is a man on the outside of everything she has ever known.
This book was told in a number of alternating POVs including one really interesting one I will leave you to read for yourself. The next book is said to be from Jonathan’s POV and I cannot wait. I don’t know what will actually happen and I love that. And more importantly- I don’t know what I WANT to happen. I am putting all my trust in the amazing writing of Melissa Brown. I trust her to write the best story possible.
This series is one of my favorites- and I highly recommend it.
Melissa Brown was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. She attended the University of Illinois and is the mother of two fantastic kids. She’s an avid reader who enjoys making handmade gifts for her family and friends, as well as baking and painting. Melissa has an unhealthy obsession with pop culture. She speaks fluent movie quotes from the 1980s (John Hughes = genius), reads celebrity gossip magazines and never misses an episode of Scandal. She enjoys writing contemporary romance, romantic suspense and young adult novels. All of Melissa’s books are currently available exclusively through Amazon.com and are part of the Kindle Unlimited Program.
