KEEP ME SAFE by Maya Banks: Book Review

A sizzling story of a woman who risks her life and her heart to find a wealthy man’s missing sister—the first novel in a sexy new romantic suspense series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks

When Caleb Devereaux’s younger sister is kidnapped, this scion of a powerful and wealthy family turns to an unlikely source for help: a beautiful and sensitive woman with a gift for finding answers others cannot.

While Ramie can connect to victims and locate them by feeling their pain, her ability comes with a price. Every time she uses it, it costs her a piece of herself. Helping the infuriatingly attractive and impatient Caleb successfully find his sister nearly destroys her. Even though his sexual intensity draws her like a magnet, she needs to get as far away from him as she can.

Deeply remorseful for the pain he’s caused, Caleb is determined to make things right. But just when he thinks Ramie’s vanished forever, she reappears. She’s in trouble and she needs his help. Now, Caleb will risk everything to protect her—including his heart. . . .

PEPPER’S REVIEW

I have to put in a disclaimer as I always try, this book could possibly involve triggers in regard to rape and abuse.

Well hell.

That was intense. Like some crazy raw shit went down in this book. It almost felt a little like:

Let’s talk about Ramie. She’s our main betch. The best part about Ramie is that she is psychic. She can feel victims emotions through touching pieces of their clothing. She’s able to help police locate missing people. Enter Caleb. His sister is missing and he needs Ramie’s help to find her. This is where the worst part about Ramie shows up. And that’s that Caleb puts Ramie through this insane experience and within the rest of the book Ramie doesn’t ever seem upset about this. I mean what went down between the two of them was completely bat shit crazy. I was like:

And of course Caleb feels like a total asshole for doing what he did to Ramie. And apologizes profusely throughout the book. But Ramie just kind of is like, mmm it’s ok. And I was not OK with that. You know we (All Romance Reviews) are very opinionated about our heroine’s in that they need to be bad ass bitches in order for a book to rock our world. And Ramie crashed a little for me. I mean I get that she was a little weak and vulnerable and her ability sucked the life out of her. But you need to put your foot down at some point.

So Caleb was a sexy alpha - “I’m gonna take care of you and do whatever the fuck I want for you” guy. He spends a lot of time pining over Ramie and hating himself for the way he left things in the beginning of the book. As he should, because it was hugging ridiculous. I’m still like:

I had a hard time getting behind him after what happened. I was so pissed. BUT, the way he treats her after they reunite was amaze. He was really sweet and alpha and that helped redeem him for sure. And after all was said and done, MBanks gave them a HEA which wrapped things up nicely.

So, I really did love a lot of things about this book. For one, the plot/storyline was killer. This is what I love about Maya Banks - she can always deliver some cooked up shit. This book had a lot of suspense and WTF moments that I always love from her. Another thing is that we can always count on some serious hot sex scenes. And you all know how I love my sexy time.

If you are a fan of Maya Banks, you should def pick this book up. I am excited to see more from this series because I loved the story so much. I can’t wait to see what other crazy shit MBanks has in store for us!
