Michelle’s Review

Holy angst Batman.

So this book was just so not what I was expecting.

From the synopsis, I thought for sure Colin and Addison would have some speed bumps, and Pierce would play some kind of a role but the authors just flipped all my expectations around.

So as you can tell from the synopsis, an accident causes Addison to have short term memory and so she can’t remember her love for Colin. This part of the story is truly heartbreaking. You can feel Colin’s love in the pages of the book and your heart just breaks for him. At least mine did. I really felt for him the entire time. Even when he acts a little cray- I can’t even be mad cause I am so on his team.

Colin and Addison attempt to be friends but can you really be friends when one person is totally and utterly in love with the other?? And the other person can’t remember shit about your time together. Jesus.

Then Pierce enters the picture. He’s handsome, rich and new and Addison falls for him. Honestly, I was just not into Pierce. I can see the appeal- don’t get me wrong. I am guessing people are either Team Pierce or Team Colin and I am Team Colin all the way. But it’s more than being on Colin’s side. He just didn’t take my breath away. And I almost felt they moved to fast for me to invest in them as a couple.

Really Pierce just made me feel like:

A lot of the story is really focused on them and their relationship. Eventually Colin finds that if he can either have a little bit of Addison as his friend or none of her. And my heart was broken. So if you’re like me and your Team Colin you probably spent a lot of the book just hoping he would find happiness because at this point I just knew that it was all over and I wanted to find a way to give myself to him.

I mean, he doesn’t do anything to cause Addison to stop loving him and so that makes it even more unfair. Now, don’t get me wrong- he does and says some stupid shit but as hurt as he is, I don’t blame him.

So this is where reviewing this book becomes tricky. At this point any more information and I will have officially said to much and I’ll be in dangerous spoiler territory. And I would never do that to you dear reader. So I guess all that needs to be said is- I think you should buy this book!

The book isn’t actually too terribly angsty until the very end and the it’s just like:

I cannot believe these ladies left us like that!!!! I need book 2 NOW. I mean I know I said it was angsty but it wasn’t the type of book where you are like uncomfortable with angst the entire time. No- most of the time things are pretty cool with some minor moments of stress thrown in. But that ending. Holy Lord. Angst-city.

Is this a cliffy? Most definitely. HUGE CLIFFY!! And there are a couple of plot points in book 1 that I think will rear their ugly head in book 2 (not even talking about the cliffhanger here) and it is going to be CRAZY TOWN!! And I cannot wait to see what happens!!!

Blog Tour Review and Giveaway- Come to Me Quietly by A.L. Jackson

Come to Me Quietly-1

From the acclaimed bestselling author of Lost to You and When We Collide comes a new adult novel of one woman’s obsession: a man who’s as passionate as he is elusive—and as tempting as he is trouble…

Aleena Moore is haunted by Jared Holt. It’s been six years since she’s seen her brother’s best friend, the self-destructive bad boy she secretly loved in high school. As the years pass, she knows it’s time to move on. Time to decide between a practical nursing degree and her true dream as an artist. Time to get over Jared and give another guy a chance…
Just when she opens her heart to her friend Gabe, Aly returns home to find Jared sleeping on her couch. The teenage boy she loved has grown into a man she can’t resist. Covered in tattoos and lost in rage, he’s begging to be saved from his demons—the memories of the day he destroyed his family. As the two reconnect, their passion is hot enough to torch Aly’s judgment. But can she risk her future for a man who lives on the edge of destruction?

MICHELLE’S REVIEW

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting A.L. Jackson. She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. And adorable too. If you’ve ever see her videos on Facebook you know how cute she is, right? So how in God’s name does she manage to write stuff that RIPS ME APART EVERY SINGLE TIME??

Seriously- either the woman is totally tortured or she’s just that amazing of a writer that she can evoke a full range of emotions from me every. single. time.

Aly and Jared. Where do I even start?? Aly is the type of heroine I live for. She is strong, she is smart and she owns her destiny. She knows what she wants and she has no problem admitting it. She also knows what she doesn’t want and I think even when she starts to give in a little, she catches herself and follows her heart. I love her. Even when she has every right to act petty or fall apart or lose herself- she doesn’t. She has loved Jared her whole life and she finally gets him back in her life after he disappeared from it for his own reason. But this is not one of those scenes where they are both hot for each other and bang and it’s all downhill from there. No, these two take the same care with their new relationship as they did with their original friendship. It is a slow and steady build and when we get there it’s like:

And then there’s Jared. Poor tortured, gorgeous, I think I am totally and completely in love you, please say you’ll be mine, Jared. Why are the broken ones so damn swoon worthy???
Jared is holding the weight of the world on his shoulders. He has guilt from his past and believes that his actions tore apart and destroyed his family. It causes him to lose himself and really give up on himself. Aly is the one person that sees through his pain. She sees him and she loves him both as a friend and as more. She slowly but surely breaks his walls but at the end of the day he still feels undeserving of her love. I just can’t with how much I love him. You will think about him for days, weeks after you finish.

Their story is just so perfect and yet so tortured from start to finish. They grew up together and there are so many reasons for them to stay away from each other but the just can’t. And you know shit is going to hit the fan- you expect it- and still when it does, you are WRECKED. This story is heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. A.L. Jackson is one of the most brilliant writers out there. She gets so deep into your heart that you start to wonder if she’s actually taken up residence in your body and is tugging on your heart. When it hurts- it hurts so damn much and when it’s good and beautiful you just want to weep for joy.

For those that are worried about cliffhangers, I will say that I don’t consider this one. The story ends and it doesn’t end in a way that makes you want to kill yourself. BUT there is more to their story and luckily we get it in just a few months.

Once again A.L. you have

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

1) We are HUGE fans of yours over here at All Romance Reviews. Normally the level of angst you provide us with would be too much to bear but you write in such a way that it is worth the extra dose of Xanax. Even though you are a master of angst- have you ever thought of writing something lighter?
Oh, I’ve tried. It just never seems to come out that way. Come to Me Softly is probably the lightest thing I’ve written, other than Lost to You.

2) What role does music play in your writing?

It really helps to set the mood. I don’t often listen to music while I’m actually writing, but will listen to my playlist or a certain song to help me get in the right mood for whatever scene I’m writing.

3) We know that we are getting Come to Me Softly soon but after that, what can we expect to see from you?

I have a special project in the works that I can’t announce yet, but it’s going to be a ton of fun and I’m really excited it!! Beyond that, I’m going to be working on the third book in the Closer to You series, which is Christopher’s story. I can’t even wait to dig my hands into him.

4) When you aren’t writing- what are you reading?

Romance, of course. Contemporary or NA please.

5) Tell our readers three things you just can’t live without.

Coffee, Kindle, my insanely cozy bed.

Blog Tour: Review & GIVEAWAY – BEHIND HIS EYES by Aleatha Romig

BHEsmalltour

SYNOPSIS

The CONSEQUENCES SERIES READING COMPANIONS

Books #4 of the CONSEQUENCES Series - BEHIND HIS EYES – CONSEQUENCES is a reading companion, by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig, recommended to be read after completing all of the CONSEQUENCES SERIES: Consequences, Truth, and Convicted. It is not a standalone book and should not be read as such.

This companion was written to explore the thoughts and motivations of Anthony Rawlings, the man behind the consequences. It was not intended as a total rewrite of Consequences, but meant to enhance the reader’s understanding.

BHE-Consequences contains significant scenes from the novel Consequences, as experienced from Anthony’s point of view. It also contains never before read, behind the scenes information, as well as, a glossary of the characters and a timeline devoted to the events within Consequences.

BEHIND HIS EYES CONSEQUENCES is a dark journey into the mind of the man who believes that he controls everything and controls nothing. Because there is more to learn about a man who:

Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule—he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn’t an acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul.

—Aleatha Romig CONVICTED

It was a long and painful acquisition—especially from Behind His Eyes!

MICHELLE’S REVIEW

Note to readers: You must read Consequences first. This a spoiler free review for Behind His Eyes- Consequences but it will make no sense to you if you have not read Consequences and there could potentially be spoilers for those that have not read Consequences.

Son. Of. A. Bitch. That was amazing. AMAZING. Aleatha Romig is most definitely an evil genius.

You have got to read this book. If you are a fan of the Consequences series, you NEED this book. I know there are plenty of people out there who are scared to get into Tony’s head because let’s be honest- it was scary enough looking at him through Claire’s eyes!!

For those of you that made it through the entire Consequences series, you were probably Team Tony by the end. So going back and having to relieve the first book where you were always so mad at him and questioning your feelings about him was not going to be easy. There were definitely moments where I found myself so mad at Tony because I had FINALLY come over to his team and I just wanted to be like:

And when we finally get to accident, I expected to be like this:

but Aleatha handled it perfectly. It was tough to get through but no harder for me than the first time.

I was actually surprised to find that even though I knew their entire story, seeing it from Tony’s eyes, I couldn’t believe or understand how Claire ever fell for him. It was like all the stuff that happened in Truth and Convicted didn’t even matter because we were back at square one and it was so fucked up!!!

I don’t want to spoil anything for those that haven’t read Truth or Consequences so what I will say is that my feelings for Catherine were more in line with how I felt about her in Convicted. When I read Consequences from Claire’s POV- I found Catherine to be a positive force. Seeing her from Tony’s eyes definitely showed me a different side that was more in line with how I viewed her later on in the series. Basically I felt more like this:

At the end of the day, here is what you need to know. This was a magnificently written companion novel. It’s interesting to see what scenes Aleatha chose to revisit but each one is as important as the next. It could not have been easy to get into a mind that was so twisted but Aleatha handles it like a pro. Will you need to drink heavily and pop a Xanax or 5? Yes. Yes you will. Will it be worth it? Absolutely. If I gave out stars I would give Aleatha about a million for this one. But since I don’t all I can do is this:

Bravo Mrs. Romig. Bravo.

ASK ALEATHA

Aleatha answers your burning questions!!

Was it difficult to write Tony’s POV?

It was! I tried to start this book multiple times. Each time I’d get so mad at him that I’d have to stop writing. (Don’t let that scare you) My anger was directed at his indifference more than his behavior. Then, one day I realized my problem. It was Claire. She’d lived in my head for almost three years. I knew what she experienced and how she felt. I couldn’t be Tony with Claire there. Once I realized that and evicted Claire (no exorcism was necessary—lol) I let Tony take over. From what I’ve heard…it was effective. You’ll have to let me know.

Is this just a rewrite of Consequences from Tony’s POV?

No. BEHIND HIS EYES CONSEQUENCES is NOT a rewrite. It is a “reading companion”. I went through CONSEQUENCES and with the help of my betas; we decided upon significant scenes that if told from Tony’s POV would enlighten readers. I also added “behind the scenes” scenes to again enlighten readers.

CONSEQUENCES was told mostly from Claire’s POV. Therefore, conversations and things happened outside of her observation. This companion allows readers to witness some of these scenes.

What if I don’t remember one or some of the scenes you chose for BEHIND HIS EYES?

I have included references at the beginning of each chapter to help you, if you want, to associate the scene Tony is experiencing with the scene in CONSEQUENCES, for example: Chapter 7 of BHE CONSEQUENCES is entitled: The Accident—September 2010, (Consequences—Chapter 19). That way, if you don’t remember the accident scene, you can go back and read it in Consequences. Honestly, it is kind of fun, perhaps not with that scene, to see how things and actions are perceived differently by the opposite POV.

What are your plans after you release all of the BEHIND HIS EYES reading companions?

I want to write a new series. I don’t know for sure if it will be two books or more. I want to develop a relationship with new characters and create new twists and turns. I have some notes and some ideas, but I’ll be honest, Anthony Rawlings is not an easy character to let go. However, I believe it is time.

I’ve been asked if I’ll ever write more about them. My answer is “I don’t know.” I can’t say NEVER, but I believe it is time to move on.
