Mendoza: I grew up in the slums and lost everything I loved to poverty, illness, and death. I had only one skill to leverage myself out of my circumstances—violence. Being hired out as a mercenary hitman brought me money and built an empire. But all that I’ve fought for is in jeopardy. My next job: Steal secret information that could bring down world governments. Find my target. Destroy it. But then, I meet her.
Ava: Karma hates me. When my best friend Rose is kidnapped, I have no choice but to take a job as a mule for a pair of criminals intent on selling top-secret information to the highest bidder. I should have known that bad luck tends to cling, because the plane I’m on goes down. That I survived a crash-landing was a miracle. And so was being rescued by Rafe Mendoza—hot, sexy, dangerous. The thing is, he wants the information that I need to free Rose. I can’t let him have it, but I need his help. And I need to fight this crazy attraction for this mercenary with hungry eyes. Rose is depending on me, and I won’t let her down, no matter how appealing Rafe is.
MICHELLE’S REVIEW
If you are a fan of this series- I think you are going to love this one. And if you have never read this series- I strongly feel like you can start here. It doesn’t overlap really with other characters but Mendoza (Rafe) does make an appearance in LAST BREATH.
So this book was this interesting blend of sexy, scary (cause you know people get murdered in a book about hitmen), sad, and oddly funny at times. It’s the humor that surprised me.

These books always have a tinge of humor to them because there has to be some comic relief in a book that is about men who are trained to kill falling for sweet and sometimes unsuspecting women and vice versa.
But this humor came in the form of a monster cock and our heroine’s reaction to it.

“It” was the source for a lot of inner dialogue that had me giggling. And at the same time- that was the cause for a lot of anguish on the part of our hero which made for a really interesting dichotomy. And it WORKED. Somehow- the monster penis was something you could laugh at, feel sorry for and I don’t even know how- but be turned on by it too!

But there was more to this than a monster cock. I really like saying that. Anyways- there was more. There was this sweet juxtaposition of a hard as hell man both physically and emotionally joined with a sweet and soft woman. Ava might have been my favorite heroine so far. She was so much stronger than I expected her to be. She was in a total mess because she was devoted to saving her best friend. And as a hand model- she might not be on runways but she definitely could have been stuck up or at least high maintenance. But she never was. She was strong and resilient and 100% likable the entire way through.

The love between these characters did move at a fast pace but I wouldn’t qualify it as insta-love. I think if two people find themselves stuck together in a serious life or death situation- it would be easy to fall in love quickly. So I don’t blame them.
Plus we know Rafe (Medoza) was into Ava from the minute he laid eyes on her…
…and in many ways- her mercenary man was a savior for her and on top of that- he was hot. So their quick road to love was ok by me because it worked for this story.
Overall- great book. I highly recommend it and like I mentioned before- you could read this one on it’s own and I think you would then want to go back and read the rest.

Jill Myles has been an incurable romantic since childhood. She reads all the ‘naughty parts’ of books first, looks for a dirty joke in just about everything, and thinks to this day that the Little House on the Prairie books should have been steamier.
After devouring hundreds of paperback romances, mythology books, and archaeological tomes, she decided to write a few books of her own - stories with a wild adventure, sharp banter, and lots of super-sexy situations. She prefers her heroes alpha and half-dressed, her heroines witty, and she loves nothing more than watching them overcome adversity to fall into bed together.
