PEPPER & MICHELLE’S JOINT REVIEW

MICHELLE: Sweet Lord Almighty. I don’t even know how to start this. Who do I love more? Adam? Nicki? MARY WHITNEY???

Seriously- this was one of my most highly anticipated sequels this year and it exceeded all of my expectations.

PEPPER: OMG I couldn’t agree more. I NEEDED this book. Sometimes with sequels, I’m like whatever- after the initial waiting period has happened. But I needed the rest of Adam and Nicki’s story.

And it was amazing

MICHELLE: It really was. I started to panic. Not going to lie. When I saw that Nicki had a boyfriend I was like- oh shit. You know I hate cheating so I was just really nervous.

PEPPER: Yes, I actually thought of you in regard to that. I was wondering what you were going to think.

MICHELLE: BUT because Mary is AMAZING she handled the situation perfectly and I was able to deal with the situation because of the way she wrote it. Because Mary is a genius. Seriously- it was very well done.

PEPPER: Couldn’t agree more. I mean, I think it is really hard to put a positive spin on a person with two people they are loving on at once, but it’s part of life and the heart wants what it wants. In this instance it was done pretty flawlessly. And I am sure it helped that I wanted Adam and Nicki to be together so bad.

MICHELLE: That was definitely part of it for me. Adam and Nicki belonged together. No doubt.

But also Nicki (and Adam) are adults. Like real adults that deal with their feelings and emotions like grown ups. Which is amazing because when we left then in Beside Your Heart, they were young and in love but mostly young. So to meet them here, years later, and see them be the same but so mautre. It’s amazing. I have to remind myself these are characters in a book.

PEPPER: I know. I just figured I was going to meet them the next time I visit you in DC. Like, hey lets go get drinks with Adam and Nicki.

MICHELLE: Seriously.

PEPPER: I just find it so mind boggling that she can write so well that we think are friends with these people in real life.

MICHELLE: Yup. And I just have to sidebar there because as a DC resident- this was me every time a place I knew was mentioned.

And don’t worry- I already stalked Mary on FB to let her know how excited I got about seeing some of my favorite spots in print.

PEPPER: Haha I bet. I was even like, ooo I wonder if I saw that place when I was there!

MICHELLE: And also- I just loved what Adam and Nicki did for a living. I’m a political junkie so all that made my lady parts tremble. Plus the thought of Adam with his proper English accent reporting for BBC. SWOON!

PEPPER: I know!!! It really was fun to read up on some possible behind the scenes stuff. I am in no way a political junkie (or political anything) but it was still awesome to get some inside info - even if it was fiction.

MICHELLE: Well I know Mary was a lobbyist in her former life so she was definitely writing what she knew and a lot of the drama and scandal was accurate. And awesome. DC politics are really sexy.

So one thing I truly loved about this book is that at the core of it- it was about Adam and Nicki and their second chance. Yes there was drama and angst and all of that. But a lot of it was just them realizing that they never stopped loving each other.

PEPPER: Oh absolutely. I mean I was just totally on their team the whole time- waiting for them to make it all work.

I just LOVED it.
The whole thing.
BUT…I want more.

I needed an epilogue. It ended WAY to quickly for me

MICHELLE: I agree. When I saw that we had an ending from Adam’s POV I was like

And then when I saw how little of his POV we actually got, I was like:

PEPPER: Ya, that was no bueno for me.
Oh speaking of Spanish, I loved how Adam joked about Nicki’s boyfriend. It was so sweet how he just let his jealously lie out on the table.

This book was very quick witted. I read it so fast. And you know I am not a fast reader, ever.

MICHELLE: Agreed. The making fun of the boyfriend was great. And the way Nicki stood up to the girl Adam was dating at first was fantastic. I thought for sure she was going to be a problem.

Again- and I can’t say this enough- I just loved how honest and real they were. I was already so invested in their lives after book 1 and this book just made that feeling more intense. I kept trying to put it away to go be productive but I just couldn’t stop.

PEPPER: Yea I finished in a few hours- rare for me. I also loved how Nicki didn’t waste too much time letting Adam in her life. She denied him a little bit and there was a little fight, but she very quickly figured her shit out and I was so happy it wasn’t some big, on again off again thing.

MICHELLE: Agreed, There was angst but it wasn’t drive you insane, want to kill the characters angst. God I just love them both
And I thought the side kicks were perfect. Lisa was awesome.

PEPPER: OMG David was my fav character!!
I want a David book!!

MICHELLE: Yes! And I loved him in Beside Your Heart. Didn’t think I could love him more but now I am obsessed.
This is how I feel about a David book.

PEPPER: Seriously.
Can you do some MWhit convincing? I could send her some Utah truffles?

MICHELLE: Yea- we should probably just start harassing her now. Until she caves.
Or gets a restraining order. Whatever comes first.

Basically this will be us. Let the stalking commence.

PEPPER: Yup- and we’re almost as cute as those dogs, so we can probably wear her down.

MICHELLE: Totes.

Well there you have it folks. Beside Your Heart (book 1) and Disclosure of the Heart (book 2) are two of our top books of 2013. We cannot say enough good things about this series and this author. So get to one clicking. You won’t regret it.
