Mists of The Serengeti Cover

SynopsisOnce in Africa, I kissed a king…

“And just like that, in an old red barn at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, I discovered the elusive magic I had only ever glimpsed between the pages of great love stories. It fluttered around me like a newborn butterfly and settled in a corner of my heart. I held my breath, afraid to exhale for fear it would slip out, never to be found again.”

When a bomb explodes in a mall in East Africa, its aftershocks send two strangers on a collision course that neither one sees coming.

Jack Warden, a divorced coffee farmer in Tanzania, loses his only daughter. An ocean away, in the English countryside, Rodel Emerson loses her only sibling.

Two ordinary people, bound by a tragic afternoon, set out to achieve the extraordinary, as they make three stops to rescue three children across the vast plains of the Serengeti—children who are worth more dead than alive.

But even if they beat the odds, another challenge looms at the end of the line. Can they survive yet another loss—this time of a love that’s bound to slip through their fingers, like the mists that dissipate in the light of the sun?

“Sometimes you come across a rainbow story—one that spans your heart. You might not be able to grasp it or hold on to it, but you can never be sorry for the color and magic it brought.”

A blend of romance and women’s fiction, Mists of The Serengeti is inspired by true events and contains emotional triggers, including the death of a child. Not recommended for sensitive readers. Standalone, contemporary fiction.

PEPPER & MICHELLE’S JOINT REVIEW

MICHELLE: I knew from the second I started reading the prologue that I would fall in love with this book. By the end of the prologue- I just knew it would wreck me.

PEPPER: Yeah, I was done after the first few pages. But I knew I would be – this is Leylah Attar, people. She is an automatic must read and WILL love for us!

MICHELLE: So if you’re a fan of Leylah’s books – this one might seem lighter in some ways. A lot of the major conflict outside of the two main characters – Jack and Rodel – happens and concludes around 70-80%. The rest of the story is very much about these two souls finding their way to one another.

PEPPER: Agreed, however these two needed that extra time. Everything they experienced in regard to even meeting was so tragic – I feel like it had a perfect flow.

MICHELLE: It really did, but I’m getting ahead of myself. That’s what Leylah does to me. She makes me all hyper and crazy because I’m SO IN LOVE WITH HER WRITING.

PEPPER: I know, this review is going to be all over the place. Her writing is like nothing we experience in other romance novels. It’s so unconventional and non-formulaic, does that make sense?

MICHELLE: Yes, it totally does – Lovers. This story just blew me away. It was just so different and unique and beautiful. There’s this wonderful cast of characters but the main focus is Jack and Rodel. Two broken people trying to fix what hurts on a journey together. Even though their paths to healing are very different- they come to them with each other and create a bond that is just – perfect.

PEPPER: I loved going through their journey together. I often think – I can’t find a man until I get this and this and this figured out. And I don’t want anyone unless they have their shit figured out. But this book does such an amazing job at showing us that life is always going to be full of baggage and issues. And it can be beautifully worked on with someone else. It’s hard as hell and heart wrenching, but it can work. I loved this lesson so much.

MICHELLE: Exactly! Is anyone ever really “perfect”? Not really, however these two main characters come close. Rodel often compares Jack to her book boyfriends. Well. Jack blows them all out of the water. And honestly – Rodel is totally kick ass. I mean she moved to Tanzania basically in search of answers and closure and finds so much more.

PEPPER: Jack and Rodel. Rodel and Jack. OMG. I loved both of these two so much it hurts. I can’t stop thinking about them…

MICHELLE: I can’t stop thinking this entire thing. This book will actually transport you to the Mists of the Serengeti. I know this story has personal roots for Leylah but I’m still amazed and how she manages to actually create a picture so vivid that you feel like you’re there.

PEPPER: It’s unreal. I felt like I was there from the first sentence. She’s a master at pulling you into a place you’ve never been and making you feel like you are right there. It’s crazy how she does it, the whole time you are reading you are like:

MICHELLE: Exactly! So, basically with all our babbling, we LOVED this book. With a supporting cast unlike any other (seriously I could read an entire book about Goma) and main characters that will make a home in your heart- this book is a 2017 must read.

PEPPER: It’s actually a January 31, 2017 (as in TODAY) must read!!!

MICHELLE: Yep! Oh. And if you survive the Epilogue – call me. I’m still emotional about it.

CONSOLATION PRIZE by Linda Kage: Book Tour – Review & GIVEAWAY

What do you
think? Should I give him a try?

CONSOLATION PRIZE
Forbidden Men #9
Linda Kage
Released Nov 17th, 2016

Don’t you just hate it when someone destroys all your carefully made plans?

I mean, I had goals: college to graduate in one semester, a future I was working hard to reach, and an image of myself I wanted the world to see. My life was stacked into these precisely placed blocks. But then Colton Gamble came along and knocked them all askew.

I hated how he messed everything up, how he could hog all my attention whenever he was around, how he made my pulse quicken–but only because he ticked me off…not because I was attracted to him. Oh! And I hated how he knew how attractive he was too, the shallow, full of himself, doesn’t take no for an answer, too-flirty, too cocky, extremely irritating jerk.

The boy had all the qualities that turned me off. Or so I thought.

One night he wasn’t quite the brainless, over-confident jerk I usually took him for.

One night, he took care of me when I was at my lowest. He opened up to me and made me open up to him.

Now I’m learning maybe he’s not what I first thought he was. And maybe I’M not what I first thought I was. Maybe it’s okay to rearrange a couple of my perfectly set blocks. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll stop worrying about what I’m afraid everyone else will think and finally reach for something I really want. It’s possible some of my plans need to be destroyed, and Colton Gamble is exactly the kind of mess I need in my life.

What do you think? Should I give him a try?

Desperately seeking your advice,
Julianna Radcliffe

PEPPER’S REVIEW

This is exactly how I felt after reading this book:

I seriously cannot get enough of the FORBIDDEN MEN series. I am obsessed. If you haven’t gotten on the FM train – you need to immediately. And CONSOLATION PRIZE is a great way to start. This is definitely a standalone, however, I would highly suggest you just binge all 9 books – because this series will rock you.

OK – on to this book. I will tell you that there is A LOT going on in this book. So, without attempting a rewrite, I’m just going to tell you why I loved it so much. And obviously I’m going to tell you that you need it in your life STAT. This is a “frenimies to lovers” sort of book and it will get all your emotions going.

OMG Colton Gamble. Perfect blend of Noel (older brother – protective alpha) and Ten (older brother’s bff – smart ass teaser). And to me – this is my dream man.

With Colton being 18 in this book and watching him grow up from age 8 throughout the series, this just made him that much more endearing. But Dear Lord, I am not ashamed to say that he grew up and turned into a dirty talking sexy ass MAN.

I loved how Colton knew he wanted Julianna and just went for it. I loved his confidence – even in the face of his insecurities.

And Julianna – I swear I wanted to throttle her at times. She really was a sassy bitch and although I love me a sassy bitch, sometimes she was just a bitch.

I loved how she eventually lets that facade go and embraces her attraction (both physical and emotional) to Colton. And this is when things just explode – in so many good ways.

Now, Colton and Julianna have several hurdles to go through before they have their HEA. Julianna first being into Colton’s older brother, the fact that Julianna is 4 years older than Colton, the two of them fighting like children on a playground (which was hilarious and sexy AF), and the most intense issue being that these two battle with being in an interracial relationship (when I say battle, I mean, that other people are assholes and make life difficult for anything out of their norm). As per usual, LKage handles all these things (and more) like a boss. Her writing is flawless. She is a genius. I love her. I want to be best friends with her and have her tell me bed time stories.

The thing that I am so obsessed with in regard to this series is that LKage brings everyone back from previous books. This framily is my absolute favorite of any book series I’ve ever read. I love all of these people and I get so giddy when other characters from past books show up. In CP, Colton’s older brother Noel and his wife go through something really intense and something I have experienced myself – thus making me FEEL that much more.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. If you love a good enemies to lovers storyline – packed with a shit ton of giggles, drama, and hot AF love – you need this book. Please get on the FORBIDDEN MEN train. You will not be disappointed. Get yourself a little Thanksgiving gift and binge this series. And if you’ve read them all, then reading CONSOLATION PRIZE is an obvious yes! Thanks LKage (bestie) for giving us more of our favorite peeps. Please don’t let this be the end.

THE BACHELOR AUCTION by Rachel Van Dyken: Book Tour & Review

bachelor_auction_tour

the-bachelor-auction-coverJane isn’t entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn’t she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes—or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire—maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn’t anyone’s dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk—even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it’s karmic retribution that he’s tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can’t have. But while they can’t have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . .

PEPPER’S REVIEW

Oh, I love a good Cinderella story!! RVD did such an amazing job at turning this well known fairy tale into a modern day rom-com. I loved it so much!

So our heroine Jane is essentially our present day Cinderella. With two older asshole sisters telling her what to all the time, she can never say no. And this drove me a little bit crazy TBH. I wanted to murder those bitches. And I just wanted Jane to stick up for herself.

And then our Prince Charming, Brock, arrives and everything is better. I mean not really, because Brock also has his own “can’t say no” problem. However, these two people pleasers united together make for an interesting back bone for each other. I loved how Brock sweeps Jane off into a cloud of romance. And although this book is essentially about the dreaded auction Brock is to be involved in – the love story between these two is where the heart of the story really is.

Although I did love Jane and Brock, what made this book for me was the supporting cast. Especially Brock’s twin brothers. Dear God, I hope we get books on them. They are mischievous and just damn delightful.

This book was THE PERFECT rom-com – in every way. It was witty and the story flow was perfect. I loved how RVD spun Cinderella in so many intricate ways. Get this book, you will love every second of it!
