Jada McLean is about to get married in nine days, when she walks in on her fiancé in a little more than a compromising position. Days later, she’s on a trip that she intends to be relaxing and a prelude to her fresh start, when she runs into the rude, obnoxious, but gorgeous Jonathan Kole.

Jonathan Kole is San Francisco’s newest District Attorney. When he finds himself deeply attracted to a stunning beauty, he has no idea that she’s about to get into BIG trouble with the law—and he’ll be the one presiding over her trial. To make matters worse, his father is the lawyer representing her in the high-profile case.

When a series of events force them together over New Year’s weekend, Jonathan’s feelings and ethics will come into question, while Jada comes to terms with the fact that she is falling for the man that will be responsible for attempting to put her behind bars… Little do they know, they’re both about to fall into a whirlwind so deep, it will send both their lives spiraling out of control.

MICHELLE’S REVIEW

I love books that have a mystery element to them. Love. Them. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I love shows like House of Cards and Law and Order: SVU. But for whatever reason, these types of books are some of my favorites.
Love, Lies and the DA is a great read packed full of twists and turns you don’t see coming.
This is a pretty long book and there were times where I thought there might have been almost too much happening to these poor characters. Like can these character catch a break??? But overall- I loved it.
So you have Jada ( love the name, btw) who finds out her fiancée is cheating on her with her best friend. Like any strong woman who doesn’t want to deal with the clusterfuck that is her life, she runs off to Lake Tahoe for some “Jada time.” Let me just add here that I love Jada. I love that she is rich on her own so there is no need for a billionaire playboy to sweep her off her feet. And her money came from hard work. I loved that about her. She was so down to earth but her business success made her such an awesome character.
Anyways- while in Tahoe- Jada meets Jonathan Kole. They immediately get off on the wrong foot and there is a lot of work to be done before these two get from mutual disdain to desire.
One thing I really loved about this book was that it was a slow build. These two didn’t have an insane attraction to each other and then jump on it. They had an attraction but the circumstances of how they get closer made an actual relationship really hard. And so they took their time. And it was perfect. It was also so realistic. I don’t particularly mind when characters fall in love with quickly but its nice to see that even in the book world- people take time to find their way to one another.
When they did come together it was the perfect combination of sexy and sweet.
There is so much that happens in this book that I swear you will have every emotion under the sun. I cried over some of the events. Some things made me so nervous I thought my heart was going to leap out of my chest. Some moments were hot and some were just swoon worthy.
I think between Rebecca’s great writing, the length of this book and they build of the characters and the story- this book almost reads like a movie script. You can really picture the things that are going on and you feel like you are watching this movie happen.
Just when you think you know what’s going on RR throws something else in there and you are just like:
The storyline is interesting but the best part is the characters. I really liked them. Jada was strong all the way through. Jonathan wasn’t supremely alpha but he was so likeable and totally the guy you could see yourself falling in love with. All of his family members and her family members were awesome. I loved her relationship with her brother Bobby. Even the dogs- you just fall in love with the characters.

If you are a lover of books with mystery and suspense in them you will probably love this. Also if you are looking for a book where the characters fall in love in 2 seconds this might not be the one for you but if you like a more realistic look at how two people can fall in love- you will love this. Yes- it was a bit on the long side but you definitely get your money’s worth. And I think if she had made it two books- it just would not have worked. So I can’t fault an author for just having a lot to say. If you read it, I hope you like it. I certainly did!
