Claire Contreras has rapidly risen to my list of must read, gotta have all her books, authors.
THE PLAYER is yet another example of why I am obsessed with Claire’s writing.
First of all- this is just a fantastic story. Flat out. Not only is it a bit of a Cinderella story - but in this story, our heroine kicks so much ass.
Camila is strong and hardworking and takes no shit. She loves her family and her community fiercely.
And Warren is just that perfect level of alpha that makes you want him but not want to call the cops on him.
One of the things I loved about this book is that while it could have just been -boy meets girl, girl thinks boy is way out of her league, boy woos girl -situation, it was so much more. Claire tackled the issue of gentrification and it continually highlighted the rift between Camila and Warren- both in the past and present.
While Warren was everything you want wrapped up in a sinfully sexy package, Camila was the type of woman that you rooted for. You wanted her to be happy because she deserved that and more.
There are some epic roadblocks for these two and I love how they tackle each and every one.
And in the end- well- the ending is just one of my favorite things ever.
If you want a book that will just sweep you of your feet from page 1- this is for you. Claire has once again knocked it out of the park. Read. This. Book.
