Aubrey Price is in the final months of her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto. Bright, witty and fiercely independent,Aubrey works part-time for the college Dean and has her sights set on graduating with distinction. When she meets Dean Grant’s son, Daniel, the TA in her senior Shakespearean studies course, a shared love of the Bard’s works and an instant mutual attraction draw Aubrey and Daniel together. Unfortunately, a strict anti-fraternizing policy, made more perilous by a black mark on Daniel’s record, keeps them apart.Against this academic backdrop, Aubrey and Daniel navigate their way through a steamy courtship, their forbidden romance aided, abetted and sometimes thwarted by a colorful cast of friends, family and classmates.
PEPPER & MICHELLE’S JOINT REVIEW
MICHELLE: There are a few things in this world that are certain. The love of my family and close friends, my faith in God, the sexiness of David Gandy (which btw- is proof of God’s existence) and finally- when Enn Bocci tells me to read something, I can trust that it will rock my world.
PEPPER: Wait, what about your undying love for me?
MICHELLE: Lover, that is always implied
But, back to Enn Bocci and her amazing recommendations, The Weight of Words by Georgina Guthrie was AMAZING.
Anyone who likes the Gabriel’s Inferno series is going to love this book because it has the same feel to it.
PEPPER: My God, I know. I loved this book. So eloquent and well written.
MICHELLE: Right? So, although this book isn’t about sex, it is about romance and the beauty of foreplay. I think we sometimes forget how sexy the buildup and sexual tension can be. And it is so well written. Just awesome.
PEPPER: I know!! I honestly wasn’t ever thinking, when the hell are they going to Get. It. On. I’m still reeling from the sexual tension and forbidden nature of the whole thing!
MICHELLE: Exactly and even though this is another teacher/student forbidden romance, it is so.damn.good. It’s not just the same old story. Double G did a great job of taking the forbidden romance and putting her own twist on it. For one- this isn’t just about school policy. Daniel really cannot screw up his job because of his past and so he has to keep away from Aubrey. But of course that will never happen. Thank God.
PEPPER: It really didn’t feel like a naughty student teacher book we have been getting a lot of lately (although, I will read and devour and love everyone of those types of books), because Daniel isn’t a full blown professor. But as you mention it makes things more complicated with his past. And you find yourself going, oh so that’s why this and that happened. Like:

MICHELLE: I know! I love when everything started to come together.
So you all probably know by now that making me fall in love with the guy is usually easy. And I’ll probably like the book if I like the guy and can tolerate the girl. But making me love the heroine is the real trick. If I love the heroine, then it takes a good book and makes it great. And I love Aubrey.

PEPPER: OMG. Me too. She was hilarious. I loved her inner thoughts so much! Like when she said this:
As he moved, his knee grazed mine under the table - an accident, of course- but he might as well have thrust his hand between my legs, considering the effect it had on me.
and this:
…and have I mentioned I boat-raced three mojitos about thirty minutes ago, handing myself the baton at the end of each round?
MICHELLE: Yes! She had so many good ones, Her internal monologue is HILARIOUS. I love that she’s smart and doesn’t take shit from Daniel. But she also admits that she’s totally into him and that she is ruled by her lady parts. So even when she wants to be a bad ass and succeeds at it, on the inside she is a quivering mess. And isn’t that how most of are??
PEPPER: God, I loved her unabashed lust for him. It was funny.
MICHELLE: Seriously, I think Aubrey and I share a brain. She is a perfect mix of funny, crass and vulnerable. It makes her totally easy to relate to as a character.
PEPPER: I loved that she said “fuck” and didn’t apologize for it. Cuz, basically that word is a constant in my vocab and I think a lot of people get nervous with that kind of language. So it was refreshing for me that she was all about it and that Daniel thought it was cute and sexy! It’s kind of like this:

MICHELLE: And speaking of Daniel - he is just sexy. That sexy professor look will never get old for me. There is just something about a smart man that gets me going.
PEPPER: I know, it’s so hot. Especially when they know they are smarter than most people and they kind of act like dicks about it. I get real explosive in the ovaries when things start getting smart. I married a very smart man and it gets me going every time!!
MICHELLE: Ok, let’s focus on the book Pep!
So there is a lot of Shakespeare here which I personally love and you get to see parts of Shakespeare used in very smart and creative ways.
PEPPER: Ok, so this is where everything is lost on me. Please don’t hate me, but Shakespeare and I do not mix. At. All. I don’t get it. However, with that said, I was overly impressed by her use of Shakespeare in the book. I find it very intriguing when people can decipher whatever the hell is going on in his writing. It definitely didn’t take away from the book, I just had to be humble to the fact that I am not well versed in this fancy stuff and then I have to come to terms with it and then I am OK!
MICHELLE: Lol! Shall we talk about how Daniel’s British nickname of Poppet for Aubrey makes my lady parts weep. Daniel is just really working his way into top boyfriend category here.

PEPPER: Well BFF, I have to leave Daniel off of my list. And this is why. He is hot and sexy and fucking smart as hell. But I think because I am completely inadequate in the literary department of Shakespeare and I can’t come up with witty Romeo and Juliet quotes as comebacks, we would not be compatible. It just wouldn’t work.
MICHELLE: Well, we share too many book boyfriends anyway, so it will be nice to have him to myself
So, There is nothing about this book that I didn’t like other than the fact that I have to wait for more. But for you Double G- I will wait. But we’ll probably stalk you. Just letting you know what’s up.
PEPPER: OK, yes. When the hell are we getting more? God, I about died when it ended where it did. I wouldn’t say it was a cliffhanger, but holy shit I can’t wait for more of these two. And the rest of the peeps in this book. I loved it all.
Go, NOW. It releases today. Get this book!! It’s so smart and witty and just fucking brilliant!!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Georgina Guthrie is a self-professed book hugger and compulsive diarist. Though GG now resides in Canada, she was born across the pond and still considers herself a Brit through and through, which may explain her frequent visits to her favourite local British import shop.
GG is often happiest when reading and writing, but she’s just as likely to be found hanging out with friends and family, almost certainly with a glass of red wine in one hand a bag of cheese and onion crisps in the other.
