I know EL Montes fans are super excited for a new book from the author. THE LAST ROUND is a very sweet story of a couple torn apart by fame, trying to find their way back to one another.

Julian and Natalia are high school sweethearts. When Julian is at the height of his boxing career, he gets caught up in the booze, drugs and women. It obviously takes a toll on their marriage. Natalia cannot take it anymore and as her acting career is taking off, she decides a divorce is best. But Julian isn’t ready to give up.

The story is told in two parts. In the first, Julian is trying to convince Natalia to not give up but as his discretions come to light, it proves too much for Natalia. The second half focuses on the two of them really starting to fight for their love.

I loved that when these two were finding their way back to one another. Their banter made you easily root for them. They just belonged together and you wanted them to work it out.

My only real complaint here was that I wanted more. I could have used more details about their time apart and their individual growth to really latch on to them beyond just being a couple- to really fall in love with both of them individually. A lot of times, Natalia would get on my nerves by not letting Julian really speak- especially in the beginning.

So I could have used more of her own personal experiences that led her to where she wanted to be divorced.

The epilogue was great but again- I would have loved a bit more. Besides that, I enjoyed this second chance romance story.
